Self-Care For Creatives

Self-care has been discussed in depth for the last few years now. And it’s essential to everyone’s lifestyle whether you consider yourself fit or if you’ve just begun your health journey. Taking care of yourself & loving yourself should be our main priority in life but oftentimes it isn’t. In honor of World Mental Health Day I’ll be sharing a few tips & tricks to incorporate self-care into your life no matter how busy you think you are.

  1. Do something daily that brings you joy. This can be something as simple as listening to your favorite song in the morning or having your favorite food for breakfast. If you start your day off on a high note then that will set precedence for the rest of your day. Or maybe you’d rather reward yourself at the end of your day. That will give you something to look forward to especially if you’re having a bad day.
  2. Take care of your body. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep every night. Stay hydrated & drink water daily. Eat something that will nourish your body. Now I’m not saying everyone should be vegan but incorporating vegan/vegetarian & plant-based meals into your life will give your body & brain a boost. If you happen to drink coffee daily switch out one cup or a whole day for herbal tea instead.
  3. Keep your space organized. If you have papers all over your desk & can’t even find a pen to write with you aren’t setting yourself up for greatness. At the end of each day make an effort to organize your workspace so you can find everything you need the next day. Pick up a cheap file folder & start living your best life. If you really want to commit incorporate a weekly planner as well & reclaim your time!
  4. Disconnect. Take a break from social media. Put your phone on Do Not Disturb. Go for a walk to get some fresh air & clear your head. Take a midday nap. You give yourself to so many different people & projects but sometimes you just need to sit with yourself & your own thoughts. You are your main priority. You deserve at least 5-10 minutes to yourself daily. Your mind, body & soul will thank you for it.
