What’s up y’all? If you follow me on Twitter you know that I’ve been obsessed with Tubi movies for a while. But what exactly is a Tubi movie? Tubi movies are essentially another genre of Black bootleg cinema. I’m sure you’ve seen the memes & TikToks of all the bad acting & wardrobe & hair switch ups. Which kinda leads me to believe anybody can get their movie on Tubi but I don’t know.
Anyway I wanted to share a list of Tubi movies I’ve seen thus far but they keep a history of what you watch & my dumb ass wasn’t keeping a list but I rerouted. Instead I’ll be sharing 10 Tubi movies released this year that we can watch & discuss as a family. I know it isn’t what I promised but I literally don’t even know what to search to even scan movies to see if I’ve watched them or not.
So let’s get into this list shall we? Also let me mention that I’m not including any movies featuring Go Home Roger. He can kick rocks!
- The Assistant
Ok so I may have lied. I actually do remember watching this one although I’m not a fan of Erica Mena who I often call Evelyn Lozada for some reason. I’m sure just from looking at the cover you can guess what this movie is about. This movie actually wasn’t too bootleg-ish. - Surprise
This movie is about an allegedly affair where the husband starts being nosey but apparently he finds something more than what he bargained for. Men are always cheating in movies so I’m always down to watch a thriller when the woman is cheating. - Watch Your Back
Ok so Jamal Gravy Woddard AKA Notorious is like the Tubi movie king. I think I may have fallen in love with Tubi movies because I loved him so much in Notorious. I felt like I actually knew him. So this movie is about a scammer stripper which has been done numerous times before but I’m still interested. - Dope Girls
Right off the bat I’m gonna watch anything with ‘dope’ in it. Call me corny but it’s my favorite word. Dope Girls is about a group of chicks planning to take over the drug game in their city after the main character is released from jail. It doesn’t look like the entire cast is Black but I’m still willing to give it a try. - Cinnamon
This cover through me off a bit. I’m actually watching this as I write this blog. I was hoping it was like an 80’s Blaxploitation film but it’s not. Still a lot of action though. It’s about a girl trying to make her dreams come true when it seems all odds are against her. It’s kind of a mix between Set If Off & Bonnie & Clyde. I like it. - The Hooper
I read the little synopsis & it gave nothing. Basically a hoop star has to overcome trials & tribulations to fully achieve his goals. Maybe he throws the game so the local drug lord can cash in or maybe he kills someone. Your guess it as good as mine. I’m gonna still watch it though. - It’s Lonely at the Top
Now this movie legit looks like a bootleg ass movie. A hustler/gangster turns legit & wants to bring the hood with him but the hood turns on him. Or did they must stay the same? Hopefully there’s some murdering or kidnapping involved to spice things up a bit or else this might be a bit boring. - Damaged Goods
I automatically thought this movie was about one of the women on the cover (blame patriarchy) but apparently it’s about the dude who s struggling to get his life together. I’m assuming the beautiful ladies on the cover help him to do but I really don’t know. But how can you pass up a movie called Damaged Goods about a man? - Trap House
I finally found a comedy for y’all (although one could argue that all Tubi movies are comedy). Trap House seems like a hood & grown up version of House Party. Infidelity & goons are also involved in this one. I mean what other elements do you need to pull off a dope comedy. - The Last Bet
We’ve made it to the end of the list y’all. The Last Bet was a last minute option. I was going to include another ratchet movie (not to say this one isn’t) but this movie had a more interesting cover. Don’t you think the dude with the silver face mask could be LeBron or nah?
